Oak Hawea – European White Oak

European Oak Flooring Oak Hawea

Oak Hawea takes its name from the deep glacial lake in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, and it carries the same depth of colour — a rich dark brown that keeps a warm base rather than going flat or black. Against the 10 1/9″ board width the effect is architectural: dark, wide and quiet.

Select ABC grading blends clean and characterful boards, and on a dark colour that mix is what stops the floor reading as a monolith. Knots and grain surface as a shade deeper than the field, giving the eye somewhere to travel across a large expanse.

The wire-brushed texture matters more on dark tones than on any other: by opening the grain it breaks up reflected light, so the floor holds its colour under downlights instead of glaring. The finish is polyurethane with aluminium oxide over a 5/8″ engineered core with a 4 mm wear layer — a hard, matt, long-service surface.

Dark wide plank is the classic ground for rooms that want gravity: libraries, dining rooms, panelled studies, primary bedrooms, and contemporary interiors where pale walls and stone are set against a deliberately grounded floor.
