A deep, architectural grey carried across a Versailles panel in French oak. The colour is a reactive stain, generated by the tannin already present in the oak rather than laid on the surface, so the grey holds its depth inside the grain and the interwoven battens of the panel each take it a little differently.
Designed for the château that gave it its name, the Versailles panel remains the most architectural of all parquet patterns: diagonal battens woven together within a mitred square frame. Every panel here measures 31 1/2″ (800 mm) square and is built and finished before it leaves the workshop, so the pattern is true on delivery and the floor is laid a module at a time.
Each panel can be specified in one of three ranges. Range 3 is aged and distressed, chipped at the edges, with shade differences, colour accents and discoloration around the knots. Range 1 is heavily and authentically wire-brushed and undulated, deeper in its marks and rounded at the edges, highlighting the veins of the oak in a curved pattern of the utmost luxury. Range 2 is very lightly brushed only — planed, consistent, contemporary, and entirely faithful to the colour. Thickness is 5/8″ or 3/4″, solid or engineered, over a 5–8 mm wear layer.
