The white is not a paint sitting on the surface. A reactive stain develops inside the wood by responding to the oak’s own tannin, and the wash-out process then lifts colour back off the high points. What remains is white held deep in the grain with bare oak above it: the look of a floor bleached by decades of light from a tall window. Because the colour is a reaction rather than a coating, every panel is individual — a floor no factory can repeat.
Each panel measures 31 1/2″ × 31 1/2″ (800 × 800 mm) and is custom made in Belgium to your specification: solid or engineered, 5/8″ or 3/4″, with a wear layer between 5 and 8 mm. That is thicker than almost anything held in stock, and generous enough to be sanded and refinished across generations rather than decades.
Every colour in this programme is offered in three ranges, and the range is as considered a decision as the colour. Range 1 is heavily wire brushed, with an undulated surface, deeper marks and rounded edges that give the board the presence of a floor which has genuinely aged. Range 2 is very lightly brushed for a planed, contemporary finish that keeps the colour and quiets the texture. Range 3 is aged and distressed with chipped edges, where shade differences and the discoloration around the knots give every board a character of its own.
Panels of this scale come into their own in entrance halls, orangeries, galleries and principal reception rooms. The same colour is made in plank, chevron and herringbone, so a Versailles floor can continue into adjoining rooms in a simpler layout without any change of tone.
