French Oak Herringbone Flooring Oak Tufeau
Oak Tufeau takes its name from tuffeau, the pale limestone of the Loire châteaux, and this is the version made to look as though it has been in place since they were built. A warm chalky off-white, cut into herringbone, and finished with aged bevels — edges softened and knocked back by hand so every block sits with the gentle irregularity of a floor walked on for a century.
The sorting is Rustic with aged bevels: knots, filled character marks and open grain all remain, and the edge treatment adds a second layer of age on top of them. Few floors achieve this convincingly; the trick is that the pattern stays geometrically exact while the material around it does not.
This one is finished in oil rather than lacquer, and that is a meaningful difference. An oil bonds into the top fibres of the wood instead of building a film over them, leaving a matte, open surface that can be refreshed and touched up locally — a finish that ages with the floor rather than against it.
Blocks are fixed at 5 1/2″ × 31″ on a 9/16″ engineered core with a 4 mm wear layer.
Specified for manor houses, converted farmhouses, and city apartments built deliberately around old materials — lime plaster, reclaimed stone, unlacquered metal.
